This is Twig

He is a 15 year old orpan living on the streets of a dangerous city. He used to live in Gandy's Home for Orphaned Boys, but the orphanages here are really the training grounds for assassins, since nobody really adopts the children, and teh owners needed to find something else for the kids to be doing. Luckiily, there are a lot of crime bosses who'll pay a lot of money for assassinations, so the kids are trained in battle. if you don't learn to fight and defend yourself, you don't survive. Twig is the only boy to ever escape, though he carries the scars of his training. That's why he always wears a scarf, even in the summer, so people don't stare and ask questions. He knows how to be 'invisible' and that's teh way he likes it, 'cause teh other orphanage kids have been told to hunt him down and bring him back, dead or alive.

The only friend he has is a blind girl, Elleon, who knows teh city better than him in some ways. She is also an orphan, but she avoids the girl's orphanage because it's run the same way as the boy's one. Together, they manage to survive.
